Medical History: 30 yrs, female, regular smoker, thin build, 2 years severe pain in chest and back western dx not available – heavy pain and muscle relaxant meds, bloating after eating, headaches shaoyang 1-2x / wk.
Questioning exam: night sweats, irritability, strong stress in life especially at the time of onset, dark circles under eyes, cold hands and feet, tendency toward constipation, wakes 1x at PM to urinate, PMS – mood swings, breast sensitivity, period – dark clots and cramps, heavy flow.

Western Diagnosis: Trigeminal Neuralgia
Medical History: This is the 3rd bout of TN in the last 2 years. Patient takes a ferry to and from work which is cold and windy. Patient also has a history of injury to the face, which is suspected as cause of current problem. Patient is slightly overweight, with slightly high blood pressure.
Questioning exam: No symptoms other than pain in the right cheek, worse with chewing, smiling, and laughing.

Questioning exam: Right shoulder pain constant dull ache, to sharp pain upon movement. Pain scale 8/10. Energy level 9/10. No decreased motion in joints.

Traditional Asian Medicine for Shoulder Pain
Chief Complaint: Right shoulder pain for 2 months.
Medical History: In two months ago, he started a new job where he does a tremendous amount of lifting and balancing of heavy doors and cabinets. He feels sharp and stabbing pain over his right upper trapezius muscle and around his shoulder joint when he moves his shoulder in abduction. He feels better after a massage and hot Epsom salt baths but nothing has totally relieved his pain. Physical exam revealed pain and tenderness on palpation of the right upper trapezius, biceps brachii tendon, deltoid, pectoralis minor insertion and all of the neck muscles especially the scalenes and posterior muscle group.

Acupuncture Treatment of Post Shingles Neuralgia
Chief Complaint: Post Shingles Neuralgia
Western Diagnosis: Uveitis
Medical History: 93 y.o., female, complaining of paresthesia around left eye with inflammation in left eye following a Herpes Zoster attack which manifested on the upper left quadrant of the face a few months ago. Western treatments with acyclovir, prednisone (eye drops) and ciproflaxin (eye drops) were ineffective for 2 months. Ets 2-3 meals with adequate caloric intake and digestion is ok with no diarrhea. Sleeps a lot- 10+ hours per day. Good disposition.

Western Diagnosis: Plantar Fasciitis
Medical History: 52 year old female, thin body type. Runs 5-7 miles, 3-5 times per week for exercise. Menstruation ceased three years previously.
Questioning exam: Orthopedic physician diagnosed plantar fasciitis. NSAIDs, rest, shoe inserts and physical therapy stretching regimen offered little relief.
Pulse exam: Pulse is thin, moderately strong, moderately slow. Both third positions and Liver position are weakest.

Western Diagnosis: Fibromyalgia
Medical History: Patient is a 36 year old female who has a chief complaint of fibromyalgia. She has been experiencing pain in her knees, hips and low back for the past 10 years. This pain began around the same time that she had surgery for bilateral epicondylitis. This patient has experienced a lot of stress in her life related to work and a divorce several years ago. She is only able to exercise occasionally because of pain limitations. She has smoked 1 pack of cigarettes a day for the past 20 years. She does not consume alcohol or caffeine. She has a history of fibroids and gallstones, and her gallbladder was removed 5 years ago. She was also diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome 5 years ago.
