Chief Complaint: Severe pain, edema and stiffness of various joints for 8 weeks.

Western Diagnosis: Rheumatoid Arthritis

Medical History: Severe pain, edema and stiffness of various joints which were symmetrical and typical of RA. Joints affected included ankles, knees, hips, fingers, wrists, jaw, elbows and shoulders. Patient’s mobility was very poor and she needed considerable help with her personal needs. All activities were painful, the majority severely.

Questioning exam: Dull ache with stiffness. Worse at night. Trigger by coldness and tiredness.

Pulse exam: pulse is weak and deep.

Tongue exam: pale tongue with thin coating.

OM Diagnosis: Qi and blood http://rzocoruse.com deficiency. Retained coldness and wind in meridians.

Point Prescription: RN4, BL23, ST36, points proximal to affected joints, Ashi point.

Herbal Formula: Modified Huang Qi Gui Zhi Wu Wu Tang.

Lifestyle Prescription: Avoid cold and wind. Exercise gently and regularly.

Results: From the 1st treatment she began to have relief from pain. After only a few more weeks she returned to work a few hours a week and after a month back to her full hours.
