Chief Complaint: Cholecystitis

Symptoms Seventeen years ago, the patient had a surgery and removed the gallbladder; Every year she has 2-3 attacks in the hypochondrium region (upper); She has had a dull pain for one week radiating to the back, without nausea and vomiting; The urine is yellow; Yesterday she had fever; She has a gall stone in the duct, which has 0.9 cm; Normal appetite, digestion and bowels. Tongue: purple, red sides, thick yellow coating.

Pulse: deep, thready.

Aetiology and Pathogeny

There is Damp-Heat in the Gallbladder which formed the stone, Stagnation of Qi and Blood causing the pain.

Diagnosis

Damp Heat in the Gallbladder.

Principle of Treatment

Drain the Gallbladder to clear Damp-Heat and eliminate the stone; promote the free circulation of Liver Qi.

Acupuncture Points

Danshu (Bl 19);

Riyue (GB 24) (located in the 7th intercostal space, below the nipple);

Zhigou (SJ 6);

Dannang (extra point located 1 cun below Yanglingquan (GB 34)where we feel tense).

Note: electronic stimulation (continuos wave) on Danshu (Bl 19) andRiyue (GB 24). If the pain is very severe we could use dense disperse wave or intermittent wave).

Symptoms

The patient has no pain, only uncomfortable sensation on the back. For several years, once in a while, the calf of the left leg got swollen.

Sanyinjiao (Sp 6), Yinlingquan (Sp 9) (left side): to drain the Damp and eliminate the swelling.
