  • With his father being a pharmacist, and his mother a passionate practitioner of energetic healing, Spence seems to have fallen quite naturally into the medical healing arts and sciences. After his studies in horticulture and botany, Spence went on to complete his certification in Western herbology. His healing passions grew with various training and practice in massage, Therapeutic Touch, Emotional Freedom Technique, meditation, and the martial arts. Spiritually he was drawn to the Doaist teachings from the Far East. When he learned of the traditional medical ways of the Chinese, it seemed to fit like a puzzle. "I believe that the wholistic approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine is essential to foster true healing of body mind and spirit. TCM is a worthy reflection of the essence of humankind. It has given me powerful tools which I can use to grow, lead, and succeed in the cultivation of wellness for persons that become a part of my journey." Spence was handed down the wisdom that without our health our vision in life is not clear, without a clear vision one cannot embrace their mission, and without a mission no person can realize their true meaning and purpose. Meaning and purpose in life establishes mental and emotional harmony. Facilitating health is the path Spence was given to obtain this harmony. Spence received his five year Doctor of TCM education from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Vancouver. To complete his studies he spent 500 hours at Anhui Hospital of TCM Hefei City, in the Peoples Republic of China. He is a licensed and registered member of the Canadian Traditional Chinese Medicine Association, is a board member of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of British Columbia, and practices at Acubalance Wellness Centre where he concentrates his efforts on Men's health issues. He continues his post-graduate studies in Qigong and the internal arts with Master Shou Yu Liang. *HANS Authorized Provider

  • Dr. Lorne Brown is a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine practicing in Vancouver, British Columbia. Lorne is the clinical director of Acubalance Wellness Centre, a traditional Chinese medical clinical. Lorne's has focused his practice on treating infertility (including IVF support) and menstrual disorders. In addition, he also effectively administers treatment to "aging athletes & weekend warriors" to resolve their pain issues. Following one of the basic tenets of TCM - "treat the root-cause rather than the branch-symptoms", Lorne sees the responsibility of the practitioner as identifying the root cause of imbalance, and then addressing it in a context that is conducive to the restoration of each individual's proper balance. Lorne's unique treatment philosophy is that no single healing modality successfully treats all conditions or pathologies exclusively for all clients. To successfully facilitate this approach, Lorne has established an extensive network of practitioners with specialties in diverse medical fields and disciplines to provide complete care to his clients, whatever their individual requirements may be. Prior to his TCM training, Lorne graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and later practiced as a Chartered Accountant (CA). He is currently a registrant in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia. *HANS Authorized Provider.

  • Raeghan Siemens has always had an interest in medicine; but she found her true passion in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It was an instant fit, as it coincided with her own personal beliefs about the intricate balance between the universe and the individual. As well, TCM allows the body to do what it is naturally programmed to do by restoring balance from within. Raeghan transferred from the University of Alberta's science program to the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine located in Victoria. She has been a registrant in good standing of the College of TCM of BC since 2002. She graduated from the four year TCM program in 2003, and is a member of the TCMABC. She has also acquired additional skills beyond her regulated program to help her achieve increased treatment success. These skills include: Obstetrics and Gynecology, physical assessments, Motor Point Acupuncture, Soft Tissue Release, and Facial Rejuvenation. In addition, Raeghan is trained in Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Jin Shin Do, Massage, and is a certified Aromatherapist. While attending CCAOM she worked at a spa where she mastered the art of TLC and pampering others. She has found the nurturing component of her treatments very useful in reducing stress as it is a major concern for many of her clients. Raeghan supports women throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period to ensure that women have a sacred, natural, and satisfying experience. Raven Lang, a respected acupuncturist and midwife, has mentored Raeghan in the field of acupuncture for prenatal care, labour and delivery. Raeghan has also trained as a doula at Douglas College and attended many births. With these skills, Raeghan is able to provide knowledge, support, and information to pregnant and labouring women and their partners. Raeghan believes that supporting women will empower them and as a result create stronger, healthier babies and communities. Raeghan currently works at Acubalance Wellness Centre, and is available to help women throughout their journey towards motherhood.

She made a special trip to visit the Tianjin University Hospital to the Institute of Tung's Extra Point System. Over the last eight years, besides having a busy practice, Dr. Marr has spent much of her time providing public education and promoting the true essence of Traditional Chinese Medicine to inform the public about the complete system of this energetic medicine. She was aired on TV providing specific topics related to Chinese medicine in a 13-part series called, "At Home with Herbs". She has also participated in assisting other doctors in China to edit, provide language assistance, wording and valuable suggestions to produce books for English speaking practitioners. Some of the publications printed are, "Essentials for the Clinical Practise of Acupuncture and Moxibustion"; "Collection of Papers for the 2nd International Congress of TCM"; and "Applied Medical Chinese Acupuncture Therapy". Most recently, she presently serves as one of the Directors on the Board of the TCM Association of BC. She has been actively involved politically since 1994 to bring the profession to its recognition to date and is still working hard to advance the profession along with the other TCMABC board members. Dr. Marr worked for the BC Ministry of Health, Communications Branch during the time the TCM bylaws and Scope of Practise were developed and approved into legislation. She also provided feedback to the CTCMA in areas pertaining to bylaw requirements to help in the greater good of the profession. She continues to pursue advanced education to further assist in a blending of TCM with Western medicine diseases.
